Shri Thirukodikaval Nilkantha Srinivasan
Greif Heartedly we share the news that Padma Bhushan Shri Thirukodikaval Nilkantha Srinivasan founding member, advisory member of South Asian Network of Economic Research Institute (SANEI) is no more with us. Professor Srinivasan was born on March 1933, and he took his final breath on Saturday 10th November 2018 in Chennai. This is a great loss in the field of economics.
Prof. Srinivasan was one of the finest and pre-eminent economists in India, he was a long-serving member of the Yale University, and a Guru to many individuals. He completed his B.A. Mathematics Honors and M.A. Mathematic from the University of Madras in 1953-54, after which he moved to Calcutta for two year training and got his certificate for two-year Professional Training in Statistics from Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta.
Prof. Srinivasan earned his doctorate in Economics from Yale University in 1962, and since then he took up teaching profession and started working in the United States. He was a Samuel C. Park. Jr Prof. of Economics Emeritus and Prof. Emeritus in International and Area Studies at Yale University.
The Government of Indian honored Prof. Srinivasan with the Padma Bhusan in 2007, the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India.
Prof. Srinivasan was a distinguished Professor at the Indian Institute for Technology, Madras, he joined Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi as a Professor and then became a Research Professor. He has made his contribution to the field of education through his teaching in numerous Universities within India and beyond India as well.
Prof. Srinivasan was one of the founding members of South Asian Network of Economic Research Institutes (SANEI), along with that he was a Research Advisory Panel member of SANEI. With his loss SANEI has lost a concrete pillar of the institute, a guiding source of our institution. His contribution towards SANEI and economics has always been significant. His contributions and ideas would be always cherished by our team.
Prof. Srinivasan is not physically present with us, but the essence of his presence will always be there through the legacy that he has left behind, which would continue to inspire and touch others life. His contribution on the field of economic growth, development and international trade would always be appreciated.
